Dehradun beats Nainital for the state title

Dehradun: A moment of pride for all Doonites as Dehradun lifted both Boys and Girls titles in the 12th State under 18 Baketball Championship held at Welham Boys School yesterday. Organised by the Uttarakhand Basketball Association, the finals saw Dehradun boys and girls thrashing Nainital in their respective categories to lift the trophy.

The boys routed Nainital boys 53-36 while the Dehradun Girls won 24-9 against the girls from Nainital. The girls game was pretty much one sided as the visitors failed to hit the ten point mark. Shanika of Dehradun, top scored with 8 points in this low scoring game.

The Boys game was a bit more exciting as both teams scored freely throughout the match. While Doon boys were always ahead on the points table, there were some tense moments when the match could have slipped. However a clinical display of attack and defense saw Dehradun lifting the trophy after winning 53-36. Khalid of Dehradun and Benburaj from Nainital top scored with 14 points each for their respective teams.

Nishank Kumar, senior HR executive in ONGC was the Chief Guest. He was also an International Basketball player. Amai Rai, a local basketball player was felicitated for his participation in the NBA league held recently in New Delhi.
