Critics may hate it, test cricket lovers may despise it but the fans love it and that is the reason why this cash strapped league has seen unparallel success in just five years of existence.

An each year promises to be better than the last. In a glittering opening ceremony last night, Katy Perry, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra enthralled the gathering with some famous moves and numbers. A perfect start I'd say to this amalgamation of entertainment and cricket.

As for the matches, the perfect kick-off would the high voltage opener between Chennai Superkings and the Mumbai Indians, both considered the big boys of IPL.

Delhi Daredevils and Kings Punjab could emerge as the dark horses after a very ordinary campaign last year. Pune Warriors is looking packed with explosive batting with the newest signing- Michael Clarke. And King Khan's Kolkata is never too far behind. Will the boys be able to put a big smile on the Badshah's face or would it be Vijay Mallya who was oh-so-disappointed after narrowly missing out in the finals against Chennai.

Well its a long tournament and only time will tell who takes the ultimate prize. As for now the teams will have to take it one at a time trying to cement their place in the semifinal.

Plenty of cheerleaders, lots of noise and a plethora of 'DLF maximums'. Cheers to the Indian Premier League!
