Dehradun: District Magistrate Ravinath Raman reviewed the preparations of various departments prior to the monsoon season and directed them to be fully prepared for a wet monsoon and put the necessary safeguards in place.
Raman sought information in respect of the condition of roads in rural and urban areas, national highways, machines available for disaster management operations etc. Additionally, he also directed the officials to have a JCB excavator put on job in Bindal River to remove the silt from the river and deposit the same on the sides.
As seen in the past, water logging is one of the major concerns during the monsoon season. The DM asked officials to identify areas prone to water logging and make arrangements for water drainage from these areas. Additionally, he asked Nigam officials to ensure that all drains were cleaned of silt and garbage prior to the monsoon season.
Chlorination of overhead tanks, arrangements for clean water in water logged areas and clearing of garbage in various parts of the city were the directions given by the DM to the officials.
He asked the Police and Fire departments to be alert during monsoon and not seek unnecessary leaves. He directed all officials to be prepared for floods and thus prepare accordingly. He reminded that the Disaster Relief Control Room had a toll free number 1077 and a local number 0135-2726066.
